If you’re used to more traditional UIs, such as those in Photoshop or Rebelle, you might find it limited. I love it, but I’ve been using it since ArtRage 3 so I’m used to the big and chunky look.
With all this said, ArtRage’s UI may not be for everyone.

There’s a small learning curve because ArtRage has its own naming conventions for some common tools, and it can take time to figure out how to create its actual paint simulation. The streamlined look means more space is given on the canvas, and you rarely feel like painting takes up too much space on the menu. But its UI is one of the best for newcomers, as it hides a lot of its depth behind sliders and easily-clicked palettes and drop-down lists.

In fact, there are many new features behind the scenes designed to bring the software up to date without compromising ease of use, which ArtRage is known for. There’s a lot of competition in ArtRage these days, not least from more robust and feature-rich software like Corel Painter 2022 and Rebelle 5. Its rendering and imitation of real oils and watercolors has always been one of the best. The joy of ArtRage has always been its simplicity and accessible toolset. ArtRage Vitae is the newest version of one of the oldest digital painting apps that found its fans on the iPad when plein air painting started taking flight.
